Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year

I'll start this year with a funny;-

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a
large pile of apples. The nun wrote a note, and posted it on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching."
Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.
A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

Apologies to anyone who doesn't like birds of prey, cos there are a few pics of them this year - just think of them as
large budgies with big beaks and long toe nails.
Yesterday morning we had a walk round a windy and fairly deserted Teignmouth; there was a café open, so we both
had a coffee and I a gurt big lump of cake. I reckon if you're going to break a New Year's resolution you might as well
do it early and get it over with.
G&T have made it to Spain and are missing all the lovely wet and windy weather we're enjoying here - the price you
pay for travelling south.

Morning all,
Another grey start here, but it makes me feel a lot happier when friends tell me what a great time they're having in
Spain and Portugal - bless um.
Making a couple of mini shelves with fiddle rails this morning, to go on the top bed supports in the van; they'll only
hold small things like phones, torches etc, but they are the things we lose the easiest.

Well, management decided to get her hair dun yesterday
- there goes another month's housekeeping - and guess
who said the wrong thing when asked to guess the
colour, "tabby" was obviously not the right answer.
We're going to Peterborough this week for a friend's
funeral, so I've changed the front tyres on the van from
slicks to road tyres and had the tracking done, beggar the
expense.
Off to the gym soon and then Aldi on the way home -
what a full life we lead!

Evening
Got to the gym, only to find most of the physios had been
sent over to the main hospital, on some sort of
emergency; this meant only 30mins huffing and puffing
instead of an hour. Late this pm, I got a message that the
one-to-one session with my physio, scheduled for 08.00
tomorrow, has been cancelled. We can now have an early
start for P'boro in the morning!

Peterborough
Like old times; 04.00 start and, after lots of stops, we
arrived at Barsby Towers just before lunch (good timing
or wot). The van behaved itself and there were no major
hold-ups, so a good trip.

We drove, well zig, zagged really, home yesterday;
evil gusting winds that caught us beam-on and broke
a roof vent during the short stretch on the M40. If we
go out in weather like that again, I'm going to forget
the Redex and put a shot of Gaviscon in the tank.
We went to our friends funeral and visited a few
people, but spent most of the time with Barry and
Ann, who kindly let us camp on their drive and fed us
magnificently.
We're getting used to the smaller space in the van
and it is very cosy and comfy to sleep in, but we do
miss the storage we had in the Hymer (ladder, spin
dryer etc.).
Husband turns to his wife in bed and whispers "Did you
know it's National Orgasm Day?"
"Oh, what a pity," she smiled, "Right in the middle of
National Headache Week."

We've had it all today, sun, showers, sleet and a bitter
wind. On our way to Exeter we crossed over the river
Culm which was just coming over its banks and looking at
the Exe, that'll soon be doing the same. As the weather
has not been too cold for the last few days, we made a
couple of small planters for Andrew and dropped them off
at his work this morning.
How are things in sunny Spain G&T?
Julie and Ken - how are you both?
The different ages of man
Late in the night he regained consciousness.
He found himself in agonising pain in the hospital’s ICU,
with tubes up his nose, wires monitoring every function
and a gorgeous nurse hovering over him.
He realised he'd obviously been in a serious accident.
She gave him a deep look straight into the eyes, and he
heard her slowly say, “You may not feel anything from the
waist down.”
Somehow he managed to mumble, “Can I feel your tits
then?”
THAT, MY FRIENDS IS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

We'em having some chilly nights, but the last few days have been bright and sunny.
G&T have reported in and are lapping up the Spanish sunshine.
Spring must be on the way with bulbs popping up and the honeysuckle breaking bud. I've been sowing some seeds
for summer bedding plants and the greenhouse has been a pleasantly warm place to do it. Greenhouses are like
freezers - you always wish you had bought a bigger one!

Ay up, it's minus 3 degrees outside and I reckon it's time somebody up there realised that this is sunny Devon, not
Norfumberland.
I've had a bit of bovver with my laptop - the hard drive is self disintegrating, so I've bought a shiny new one as an early
birthday pressy for Dawn. It's decision time now; how much of the accumulated c**p that I had on the old one do I put
on this one!
There was of course a downside, management saw the tumble dryers so she bought me one for my birthday. When we
went to collect it in the van from Tivvy, I popped into the tyre place to have the wheel nuts checked; the chap was
most surprised cos he said most people don't bother. I had a trailer wheel overtake me once so, for the sake of a few
minutes, I always get them checked after a few miles when the wheels have been taken off (it's free).

At last I've got the new laptop doing roughly what I want it to do, not what it thinks I want it to do. Dumped a load of
stuff that I don't really want to part with onto hard drives, betcha I need something off there within the next few days!
Last evening was Skype time, with a long chat to G&T in Spain followed by another with Ann & Barry. Sadly young
Trevor has had a coming together with one of the famous Spanish roaming bungalows, it jumped out and kicked his
back light as he was reversing; luckily his navigator is a fully trained specialist in the art of "sticky back plasticking"
and soon had it patched up.
The geranium seeds are poking their heads through in the pots on the window sill and the garden is coming to life -
spring is just around the corner!

Dawn made a batch of curries for Steve, which we delivered to Taunton yesterday morning. Mum's pal has fallen and
is in hospital with a broken hip, so in the afternoon, I dropped her off to visit him. Dawn went with her while I parked
elsewhere - parking at the hospital is a nightmare and anyway I don't want to take out a mortgage at my age. Picking
them up was interesting, with the main entrance bunged up with abandoned cars, taxis and ambulances.
I finally got the small shelf covered and fitted in the van; it is for phones, torches etc and now admin wants one
making for t'other side. I can't win, make a mess of it and I get earache, get it right and er wants another one!
The windowsills are getting full of seed trays with geraniums etc popping up nicely; next problem is where to put
them all when we prick them out!
I was sat in a restaurant and got hit on the back of the head by a prawn cocktail.
I looked round and this bloke shouts, 'That's just for starters!'

A job we've been putting off was tackled yesterday - finishing the installation of a loft
ladder and making a new hatch. The trim came off the hatch opening easily and all
looked well, until we realised the old hatch wouldn't do and we had no wood for a
new one. We took the van to Exeter to get a half sheet of ply and battening, and
made a new hatch just before lunch. By the time we had fitted it to the "out of
square" hole it was three o clock and we called it a day. Why does everything seem
to take us so long to do!!!

Cor, windy or wot yesterday - I spent most of the day
brushing my hair out of my eyes! T'plan was to finish the
trim round the loft hatch, but we didn't fancy battling the
horizontal rain to and from the garage, so we went
shopping in Tivvy instead.
Major catastrophe; my phone is at the doctors having a
new charge/data socket fitted! I looked at diy repair
videos on youtube, but it seemed a bit fiddly and delicate,
so I decided to fork out £25 and have it done for me.

We had a dusting of that stuff which belongs oop norf yesterday, but it didn't keep us intrepid pair in; a trip to
physio, gym and then to a cafe at a local garden centre - to replace lost calories you understand. The greenhouse
is filling up with trays of sprouting seeds and cuttings, gawd knows where we're going to put them all; 'erself is
going back into shopkeeper mode and wants a stand making in the drive, so she can sell the surplus.
We have a project going on in the village to buy and convert a disused toilet building next to the health centre;
the idea is to make it into a meeting place for us wrinklies and offer help with computers etc. There is a fund
raising sale at a local pub this morning, so head of crafts is taking a load of knitted and crocheted gear along, to
try and sell it on their behalf.
